Entrepreneur of the Year

Taxback.com CEO and owner Terry Clune was last night named Ireland's Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, held in Dublin, is part of a global programme to identify, acclaim and support entrepreneurs.

Enda Kelly, partner in charge of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Programme described Clune as “one of the most successful entrepreneurs of his generation”.

Clune, who founded taxback.com as a college student in 1996, said he was delighted to have won the award and honoured to have been recognised amongst so many great companies and businesspeople.


“I'd like to thank Ernst & Young, the judges and particularly Enda Kelly and the team because what is happening tonight is encouraging entrepreneurship in Ireland, getting Irish business people to do better and events like this inspire me and everybody in the room,” Clune said.

“I'd like to thank my Mum, who has inspired me since I was a child and my wife who inspires me everyday. I'd like to thank our customers who have given us their business for many, many years and most importantly I'd like to thank our team – our directors who have been with me and the company for many years and our whole team worldwide who have helped build a really, really great company and I'm honoured to accept this award on their behalf.”

Clune, who also won the Industry category in the competition, was presented the award by Irish President Mary McAleese who told the crowd: “You are truly Ireland's entrepreneurial energy grid, you are phenomenal.”

Terry will go on to represent Ireland at the 2010 World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Monte Carlo in May against winners for 40 other countries.
