New Australian Tax Rates

The new tax year in Australia has started and so new personal income tax thresholds for the 09/10 tax year will now apply.

Australian residents:

  • Tax free threshold of $6000 remains the same
  • Threshold for the 15% tax rate increases from $34,000 to $35,000.
  • 30% tax rate now applies to earnings between $35,001 and $80,000
  • 40% tax rate for earnings between $80,001 and $180,000 decreases to 38%.

For Australian non-residents:

  • Threshold for the 29% tax rate increases to $35,000 from $34,000.
  • 30% now on earnings between $35,001 and $80,000
  • 38% on earnings between $80,001 and $180,000.
