Do international students working in Australia have to pay tax on their earnings?

Yes, if you work part time while studying in Australia you must pay tax on these earnings.

How will international students be taxed in Australia?

The main factor determining how you will be taxed is whether you are a resident or non-resident for tax purposes in Australia. 

If you have been in Australia for over six months, you will be deemed a resident for tax purposes. 

Residents in Australia are entitled to a tax-free threshold of up to $18,200. They must pay tax at a rate of 19% on any income between $18,200 and $45,000.

If you spend less than six months in Australia, you will be deemed a non-resident for tax purposes. 

Non-residents pay tax at a rate of 15% of the first $45,000 of their income.
