Tax rate bands change<\/h2>\n
The government has announced an increase in the tax rate bands.<\/p>\n
As with last year, the threshold for the higher 40% tax rate will rise by \u20ac2,000, moving from \u20ac42,000 to \u20ac44,000.<\/p>\n
This means you will pay 20% tax on the first \u20ac44,000 of income and 40% on anything above that.<\/p>\n
Therefore, you can now earn an additional \u20ac2,000 before reaching the higher 40% tax bracket.<\/p>\n
USC cuts<\/h2>\n
The government has reduced the rate of USC by\u00a01%\u00a0<\/b>on incomes ranging from \u20ac25,000 to \u20ac70,000.<\/p>\n
Last year, there was a 0.5% cut, which was the first reduction in the tax after many years.<\/p>\n
The Finance Minister has now brought in these cuts targeting those earning between \u20ac25,000 and \u20ac70,000.<\/p>\n
This is the largest USC cut to date, with the government keen to target low-middle earners with a tax break.<\/p>\n
Rent Tax Credit<\/h2>\n
Renters nationwide will be delighted to hear that the Rent Tax Credit has increased to \u20ac1,000. This amount will be backdated to 2024, meaning that for both 2024 and 2025, the Rent Tax Credit will be \u20ac1,000 per person.<\/p>\n
The Rent Tax Credit was originally brought back in 2022, when those who were eligible could claim up to \u20ac500, which was increased to \u20ac750 in 2023, and now has been increased by a further \u20ac250.<\/p>\n
This applies to qualifying renters and even students living in digs accommodation.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, married couples can claim \u20ac2,000 if filing jointly.<\/p>\n
Tax credit increases<\/h2>\n
There were also numerous changes to measures aimed at carers announced in the Budget.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\nWhat else was announced in the Budget?<\/h2>\n
Social welfare increases<\/h3>\n
All those who receive social protection support, such as pensioners, carers, unemployed people, and people with disabilities will benefit from this budget with a \u20ac12 weekly payment increase.<\/p>\n
Help to Buy scheme<\/h3>\n
The Help to Buy scheme has been extended until 2029.<\/p>\n
It allows first-time buyers to claim up to \u20ac30,000 in income tax they\u2019ve paid over the previous four years. This reclaimed amount can be used towards the home deposit.<\/p>\n
Energy credit<\/h3>\n
Similar to the 2024 Budget, energy credits are included in this Budget announcement.<\/p>\n
Households will receive a total energy credit of \u20ac250, divided into two payments of \u20ac125\u2014one before the end of 2024 and the other at the beginning of next year.<\/p>\n
This is an increase from last year\u2019s \u20ac150 per household, however, this year there are only two payments compared to three last year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s fair to say that Budget 2025 will impact everyone differently.<\/p>\n
Due to the USC and income tax reduction package, most workers will be happy to hear they are going to be paying less tax in the new year.<\/p>\n
