A letter from a doctor stating that the individual is a coeliac sufferer is acceptable<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Diabetic foods if you are diabetic<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Qualifying dental expenses<\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b>\u00a0You must keep receipts for gluten free food or diabetic products you claim relief for. These can be from supermarkets, health stores, chemists, etc.<\/p>\n<p>You can&#8217;t claim on the cost of cosmetic surgery, unless it&#8217;s as a result of congenital abnormalities, personal injury or disease.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"can-i-claim-tax-back-on-ivf-treatment\"><b>Can I claim tax back on IVF treatment?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>With IVF costing as much as \u20ac5,000 per session, it can come as a relief to know that you can claim tax back at the standard rate of 20% on the cost.<\/p>\n<p>So for example if you pay for a session at \u20ac4,500, you can claim \u20ac900 back.<\/p>\n<p>You can&#8217;t claim on any expenses you have already claimed for elsewhere, e.g. through insurance, compensation, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-other-fertility-treatments-are-tax-deductible\">What other fertility treatments are tax deductible?<\/h2>\n<p>You can also claim on the cost of any drugs that you need to use as part of the fertility treatment under the\u00a0<b>Drugs Payment Scheme.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>If you avail of\u00a0this scheme, you&#8217;ll only have to pay up to \u20ac134 per month for approved prescribed drugs, medicines or rental costs for CPAP\/oxygen.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone ordinarily resident in Ireland without a Medical Card should have a\u00a0<b>Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) Card<\/b>\u00a0and you must present your DPS card to your pharmacist each time items are being dispensed to you.<\/p>\n<p>You won\u2019t pay more than \u20ac134 from January 1, 2018 for all your prescribed approved medication each calendar month.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify, you must be ordinarily resident in Ireland and have a PPS number. There is no means test for the Drugs Payment Scheme. If you paid more than \u20ac134 in multiple pharmacies on prescribed drugs or approved appliances, then you can also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxback.com\/en\/ireland\/paye-tax-refunds\/\">apply for a refund here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"-2\"><\/h2>\n<h2 id=\"if-i-go-abroad-can-i-claim-tax-back-on-fertility-and-other-treatments-outside-of-ireland\">If I go abroad, can I claim tax back on fertility and other treatments outside of Ireland?<\/h2>\n<p>Yes you can also claim on the cost of\u00a0<b>fertility treatments if you have them abroad<\/b>\u00a0as long as it&#8217;s given by a practitioner who is entitled to practice in that country (for example a licensed doctor or dentist).<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re only allowed to claim on the cost of treatment in a hospital, nursing home or clinic abroad that provides access to 24-hour nursing on-site. Typically you can&#8217;t claim on the cost of travel if the same treatment is available in the Ireland. This is known as\u00a0<b>Tax Relief at Source (TRS).<\/b>\u00a0However, sometimes this credit will not apply &#8211; for instance if your employer pays medical insurance on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>This is treated as a Benefit in Kind and PAYE, PRSI and USC are due on the total amount. This means you don&#8217;t benefit from TRS and can make a claim with Revenue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"can-i-claim-tax-back-on-dental-expenses\"><b>Can I claim tax back on dental expenses?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>You can claim on the cost of non-routine dental expenses such as:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Orthodontic treatment<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Crowns<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Veneers<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Tip replacing<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Gold posts<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Gold inlays<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Root canals<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Periodontal treatment<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Surgical extraction of impacted wisdom teeth when undertaken in hospital<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Bridgework<\/p>\n<p>You should get a\u00a0<b>Med2 form<\/b>\u00a0from your dentist and keep it safe in your records.<\/p>\n<p>You can also claim for non-routine dental performed outside of Ireland. To qualify for this relief, the dentist must be a qualified dentistry practitioner under that country&#8217;s laws. A\u00a0family member\u00a0can include a spouse, civil partner, child or a relative, including a relation by marriage or civil partnership.<\/p>\n<p>If you or your family member requires home nursing you\u00a0can claim tax relief (at your highest rate) on the lower of the following 2 amounts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Actual cost incurred<br \/>\nor<\/li>\n<li>Maximum deduction of \u20ac75,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"can-i-claim-tax-back-on-laser-eye-surgery\">Can I claim tax back on laser eye surgery?<\/h2>\n<p>With the cost of such procedures ranging around \u20ac4,000 for two eyes, this is a welcome method of recovering funds! The child must be under 18 years of age or if over, in fulltime education.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you can claim relief on an assessment carried out by an\u00a0<b>educational psychologist<\/b>\u00a0and on the cost of speech and language therapy for a child by a qualified speech and language therapist.<\/p>\n<p>If you maintain a qualifying child with a life threatening illness or a permanent disability, you can claim relief in addition to the normal health expenses you pay for the child. To qualify, the child must require constant or regular hospital care.<\/p>\n<p>This can be regular hospital attendance or other supervision appropriate to serious illness or disability. Your child doesn\u2019t need to be permanently in hospital for you to claim relief.<\/p>\n<p><b>Child oncology (cancer)\u00a0<\/b>patients also qualify for this relief.<\/p>\n<p>You can also claim on the cost of\u00a0<b>travel<\/b>\u00a0for the child and\u00a0<b>overnight accommodation<\/b>\u00a0and travel expenses for parents or guardians but the stay must be necessary for the child\u2019s treatment and near the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t claim relief for parking fees.<\/p>\n<p>If your child needs to travel abroad for treatment that\u2019s not available in Ireland, then you can claim on the cost of healthcare, reasonable accommodation, and travel expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Flat rate relief is also available on telephone rental and call expenses if your child is treated in your home, but these expenses<b>\u00a0must relate directly to the child\u2019s treatment.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"the-flat-rate-for-telephone-expenses-is\"><b>The flat rate for telephone expenses is:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>2023\u00a0<\/b>&#8211; \u20ac370<\/li>\n<li><b>2022\u00a0<\/b>&#8211; \u20ac350<\/li>\n<li><b>2021\u00a0<\/b>&#8211; \u20ac325<\/li>\n<li><b>2020\u00a0<\/b>&#8211; \u20ac315<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also claim on the cost of hygiene products or special clothing if required for treatment up to a maximum of \u20ac500<b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>However, you can&#8217;t claim relief on childcare costs for siblings of the patient while the parents or guardians attend the hospital.<\/p>\n<p><b>Kidney patients<\/b>\u00a0can claim additional relief, including on the cost of travel for dialysis treatment.
