No Tax for Irish Broadcaster

#TaxTipsIreland

Irish broadcaster Gerry Ryan has been given tax-free status by the Revenue for earnings from his biography. Ryan, who last month took a 10% pay cut from RTE to make his salary about €500,000, gets the tax-free perk under the artists' exemption scheme.

The Irish tax scheme for artists aims to help struggling artists and show that the country values creative people.

Until 2006, Irish band U2 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the tax-free status for artist royalties. The band has recently been facing criticism over their tax breaks after moving their tax affairs to the Netherlands following the Government's decision to cap tax-free earnings for artists at €250,000.
