An update from Taxback

New Irish PAYE tax refund application process

Following changes introduced by Revenue, a new application process for our Irish PAYE tax refund service will apply from 1 January 2026.

Revenue now requires all taxpayers applying for a tax refund through Taxback to login to their Revenue MyAccount and formally authorise Taxback as their tax agent before a PAYE tax refund application can be submitted on their behalf.

In addition, under our previous process, Taxback received a customer’s refund directly from Revenue, deducted our fee, and transferred the remaining balance to the customer.

However, Revenue no longer permits PAYE tax refunds to be paid to tax agents. Refunds are now issued directly to the taxpayer.

As a result of this change, customers are required to pay our €99 service fee in advance, before our team prepares and submits their PAYE tax return to Revenue.

Summary of the Taxback PAYE tax refund application process

  • Create (or login to) your Taxback account
  • Provide some important information about your income and allowable expenses (such as medical expenses, remote working costs, or rent paid)
  • Pay our €99 service fee and finalise your details
  • Login to your Revenue MyAccount and authorise Taxback as your tax agent
  • Taxback will then provide an estimated refund amount, prepare and file your tax return with Revenue, and keep you informed throughout the application process
